The Orange New Writers winner is announced on 9th June. The other books nominated are Jane Borodale's The Book of Fires and Irene Sabatini's The Boy Next Door. I do wonder whether the judges are pyromaniacs. There seems to be a "fire" theme - not obvious from the title of Sabatini's book but the story begins with a fire and just a few pages in a chapter begins "after the fire" - spooky!
Call me biased...but...having read and enjoyed all three books I am convinced that Evie's novel stands above the others both in terms of her writing talents and the breadth and maturity of the story it tells.
